Scholarship Golf Tournament and Dinner Gala

Honesdale Golf Club is proud to host and present our 1st Annual Art Wall, Jr. Golf Tournament and Scholarship Dinner Gala on Saturday, May 18, 2019, open to all members and public guests.

“Everyone is cordially invited to play in the golf tournament and attend the dinner gala both members and our public guests,” stated Scott D. Miller, President of Honesdale Golf Club.“We will be honoring the late longtime beloved past member, friend, father, and golfer Art Wall, Jr., with a scholarship in his name.This is the year, 60 years ago, that Mr. Wall won The Masters Tournament in 1959!”

“On behalf of the board of directors and members of the Honesdale Golf Club, we are proud to present three graduating high school seniors of Wayne County scholarships!” stated Ann Marie Simons, Board of Director and Board Secretary.“These students live a life of good academics, love of golf, and are leaders in their community.”

The scholarships will help the students with tuition, books, supplies and overall support that extend beyond financial need, including college projects that benefit student learning.

After serving in World War II, Mr. Art Wall Jr., emerged from Honesdale, Pennsylvania and the Poconos to become a college golf star at Duke University in the late 1940s.Later graduating in 1949 with a business degree.He knew the importance of a good education and successful life – as well as love of the game.

Mr. Wall won fourteen titles on the PGA Tour, including four in 1959. That year he was chosen as the PGA Player of the Year, and also won the money title and Vardon Trophy for lowest scoring average.His most notable career achievement was his victory in 1959 at the Masters.In the final round, he birdied five of his last six holes to shoot a 66 and overtake Cary Middlecoff and defending champion Arnold Palmer.

Our day will begin with a golf tournament at 10:30 a.m.The format of the game begins with a shotgun start with a 4-person team captain and crew using the better ball - take the best tee shot, play the best ball from the best tee shot through the green – 18 Holes.We will be hosting hole-in-one-challenges and closest to the pin contests on all Par 3 holes.Hamburgers and Hotdogs will be served at the turn and is included.Dinner is not included; you will need to purchase a ticket for the Dinner Gala separately.Mulligans will also be available for purchase the day of the tournament.

Later that evening, the black-tie optional event begins at 5:00 p.m. with cocktails in the bar and deck, followed by a 6:00 p.m. turkey dinner in the dining room. The Gala will feature a silent auction (with a buy it now option), choice raffles, and our special Scholarship presentations.

The silent auction will include a Limited-Edition Framed Masters Pin Set, 2015 Masters Champion Jordan Spieth framed picture and Masters Flag, “Rowboat” – Painting by Toni Chaplin, Dooney & Bourke Handbag, London Fog Carry-on and Spinner Luggage Set with a $100.00 AAA Gift Certificate, New York Giants Football Helmet, Honesdale Golf Club Artwork, and much more.

All proceeds from the event will benefit our student scholarship program.

If you are interested in playing in the Art Wall, Jr. Golf Tournament the cost is $50 per player or $200 per foursome. If you plan to attend the Scholarship Dinner Gala the cost of the tickets are $50 per person, which includes dinner and support of the scholarship fund.Tickets are on sale at the Honesdale Golf Club in the bar, pro shop, website (https://www.honesdalegolfclub.com), or by contacting Scott D.
